Exam: every new kitten should be examined to evaluate overall health and check for any contagious diseases. Please keep your new kitten isolated from other pets until it has been examined.
Fecal Testing/Deworming: All kittens need to have a fecal sample checked for parasites (worms). Please bring a fresh stool sample to your first kitten appointment. All kittens should be dewormed multiple times. We will go over the deworming program with you at your first visit and after obtaining your fecal test results.
Vaccinations: Kittens should receive their first set of vaccinations at
Feline Leukemia and Feline Infectious Virus (FIV) testing: All kittens should be tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV. These are two infections that are major causes of illness and death in cats. The viruses are contagious from cat to cat and both affect the immune system, decreasing their ability to fight off infections. Many cats are sickly, but even healthy cats can be positive with these viruses. They may not show signs of disease until later in life. Cats MUST be tested before receiving their first Feline Leukemia vaccine.
Spay/Neuter: All kittens should be spayed and neutered by 5 to 6 months of age.
Diet: All kittens should be on high-quality kitten food until one year of age. We recommend Hill's Science Diet, Iams, Eukanuba, and Purina. It is important to measure out food at each meal to maintain a healthy weight for your kitten.
